#SeeSeabirds
Connecting fishers and researchers
Nikki from Wildlife Management International Limited (WMIL) is pictured waiting for a warm brew while downloading data from tracking devices. The devices were recovered from black petrels during morning burrow checks, high in the hills on Great Barrier Island. For the last 20 years, WMIL has been monitoring burrows, tagging hundreds of birds on the island. This season Nikki discovered that parent birds were bringing food back from as far away as Australia and well beyond the Chatham Islands.
Ecologists like Nikki and Sam (pictured with a burrow) are keen to know what seabirds you spot while out fishing. All you need to do is share photos of the birds you see to social media, tagged #SeeSeabirds. Please include an idea of your location. A rough indication is good enough - we don't expect you to give away your secret fishing spots!
